What’s Your Typing Speed?

It was one of those days (when I keep staring at my computer screen and thinking what to do about my worsening traffic, with my number one referring site (google.com) going down by a thousand each month and all I can do is look and sigh helplessly on the bar graph) when I tried to look for other ways to earn online.

One writer talked about an online transcription job. I told myself that maybe it’s about time I try transcription. So I started filling out the registration form and then I was asked about my typing speed. Although I know I can type rather fast, I don’t know what my speed is. I’ve been pounding keys since grade school and have been writing online since 2008 but I don’t know how fast or slow I can type. I told myself it’s time I know the answer. So, I searched online for a way to find out. I know there is always a way to find out about almost everything on the internet. And true enough, I came across typingtest.com. You can choose from a one to three minute test with eight subjects to choose from. I did the test three times using the one minute timer and using different subjects each time. So what’s my “score”?

  • 1st try – Aesop’s Fables – 43 WPM minus 1 error = 42 WPM
  • 2nd try – Test Instructions – 51 WPM with 0 error = 51 WPM
  • 3rd try – Zebra – 41 WPM minus 1 error = 40 WPM

I guess I can now say that my average typing speed is 40 Words Per Minute.

What about you? Do you know what your typing speed is? Go visit the site and find out.

And about that transcription job? I decided not to join and instead visited oDesk, a website of which I’ve been a member since 2008 but didn’t try anything because I was happily writing for Triond. I also needed to take some tests before I can start doing a job. I ended up taking one test which I thankfully did well and will do another one anytime soon.
